What have people said about me?

"Mike is...."

During the last two years I have produced a lot of different content, for a wide range of people.

Here are some of the things they had to say about me once my work was completed.

The Leicester City Community Safer Sex Project seeks to keep up to date with the needs of young people by continuing to ask them about the issues that affect their lives. Culture and religion in relation to young people’s sexuality and sexual health are particularly pertinent given that Leicester has a high proportion of BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) communities.  It is a priority of the project to better engage with these communities, thus we decided to make a film and toolkit around the difficulties young British Asians in particular face around talking about relationships and sex.

In conjunction with Leicestershire county council, we started the film project in July 2012, with the idea that it would be 100% young people led. Mike came on board as part of De Montfort University’s Square Mile Project as the cameraman and ended up being an assistant director as well as editing and producing the entire film! The film has taken a lot longer than we anticipated and has taken up a great deal of Mike’s free time, particularly his precious weekends!

The film is now finished and we have produced a toolkit to go with it which will be distributed to the Safer Sex projects 60+ community sites across the city, as well as both city and county schools and colleges and will help to raise awareness and educate young people in a really innovative and fun way! We are also hoping to distribute this to parents with the aim opening up a dialogue between young people and their parents on the issue of relationships and sex.

We are privileged to have worked with Mike over the past year. He has spent a great deal of time and effort making sure that the film looks and sounds just right. In addition to doing the sound, filming and editing, he also created the DVD cover and sticker designs, and even gave up his time to help us put them all in the cases for our launch! He has absolutely gone the extra mile and we are very grateful for all his hard work and commitment, to our project, and more importantly his contribution towards improving young people’s sexual health in Leicester city and Leicestershire County.

Testimonial for Michael Ham

I have known Michael Ham in the capacity of Placement Supervisor whilst Michael was a Frontrunner at De Montfort University from  June – September 2012 four hours per week.
His placement was entitled
Development of open education resources (audio & visual) in midwifery’
Frontrunners is the University's internal placement scheme which gives students the opportunity to undertake challenging employment around campus and develop the higher-level skills necessary to compete for the best graduate jobs.  The scheme is open to all De Montfort University students, offers on-the-job training, and is paid. Placements offer students the opportunity to develop their employability by taking part in exciting and meaningful work experience that also benefits the University by enriching campus life. The expectation is that placements offer a secure and supportive work environment with on-the-job training and a high level of supervision and mentoring.

Michael supported the Midwifery Division to develop their teaching and learning materials so that students have the opportunity to learn in a more dynamic innovative way. He was involved in filming a range of teaching events such as clinical skills, role play and interviews which are used as electronic resources and within face to face teaching. The resources had to meet Creative Commons Licenses so that they were able to be released as open education resources. The project was a collaborative one between the Midwifery Division and the School of Arts. See http://more.library.dmu.ac.uk

Michael worked extremely hard and professionally throughout his placement. He completed all the work assigned to him to a good standard. He sought advice and support as required and took on board constructive criticism. He was flexible in his approach and was willing to problem solve to meet the needs of the midwifery lecturer team and the drama students. He worked alongside another Frontrunner and demonstrated cooperation and team work. He willingly undertook additional work to ensure deadlines were met when his partner left the placement for full time employment. He has no sickness or absence during that period. He completed paperwork in a timely fashion.

The result was over 34 pieces of high quality audio visual material was released into the MORERepository which became live in December 2012.

(QUOTES) - Quotes from previous clients I have produced video for.

Mike Ham has volunteered as a videographer for a DMU Square Mile Project; he produced an amazing promotion video for one of our Square Mile projects --- Chinese Culture Exhibition. The video was really good, and both the Square Mile Manger and staff liked it. The video was successfulas it attracted a lot of visitors to the exhibition. During the filming, Mike was very professional, positive, easily communicatedand had lots of good ideas. It was really good experience to work with him

Mike helped Demon Theatre Society greatly when he made/shot a promotional video for the society. He was helpful and responded well to criticism. He went above and beyond the call of duty to create a video that greatly helped Demon Theatre's efforts with advertising and raising awareness of the society and how it operates

A very pleasant individual who was patient and productive. Mike was very easy to work with and was extremely reliable, creating edits quickly, with good results

Mike volunteeredhis time to work on our Sexual Health film making project as part of DMU’s Square Mile Project, which we started over a year ago. The project has taken a great deal more time and effort than we originally anticipated and he has been committed and professional all the way through. I have seen Mike’s confidence grow over the course of this project and he has become an integral member of the group, and has been great fun to work with too!

For me in full time work and 'mid life',having worked with Mike on a weekly basis for over a year,  one of his best features, unlike many of a similar age,  is his  reliability and punctuality. As a  person he is a good communicator, can take criticism without 'throwing a wobbly',  and has a  knack of turning creative ideas into actuality. Outwardly, he has a calm exterior, but don't mistake this for lethargy, as inside there is a good deal of steady 'pedalling' going on  - a person who doesn't panic is a real asset to any team
